How does it work?

Critical Illness plans cover a specified list of illnesses, of a specified severity.

For example if the plan covers strokes, this might be defined as a stroke resulting in permanent symptoms.

Once a claim is made, a specialist report is obtained from your GP or consultant.  As soon as this confirms that you have a valid claim, then the money is paid to you, very similar to a life insurance policy.

How much does it cost?

The cost of your plan will be based on many factors including your age, medical history, lifestyle, type of job, your immediate family medical history, as well as the amount and term of the requested cover.

It is also based on statistics using the above information, which helps the insurer gauge the likelihood of you making a claim. Therefore the younger and healthier you are, the cheaper the cost.
